Nuku Studio continues to document Northern Ghana by Nuku Studio

Since 2016, Nuku Studio and Noorderlicht (House of Photography in The Netherlands) have been collaborating on a photographic research project “Northern Ghana Life” with the vision to tell stories of the rather undocumented region of the country. Lensational's first photo book champions women's perspectives on the environment by Nuku Studio

“Our Shared Forest” is Lensational’s first Photo Book shedding light on women’s untold stories surrounding nature, environmental degradation and climate change. It features the work of 27 women photographers from Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, and China. These women photographers stand at the forefront of environmental issues today, however, their imagery is rarely seen, and their perspectives are rarely heard.

Exhibition “Stories from the North - Photographic Voices from Ghana” opens in Amsterdam by Nuku Studio

Nuku Studio, in collaboration with Noorderlicht House of Photography in Groningen, The Netherlands, has been producing a new project in the North of Ghana: “Stories from the North” focuses on topics such as gender, migration and climate change which are central to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The stories are told through the lens of five Ghanaian photographers: Evans Ahorsu, Mabel Senaa Bonsuuri, Geoffrey Buta, Nyamekye Joey and Qujo Buta. The exhibition opening takes place on 12 April at iMPACT DOC in Amsterdam.

Remember Me by Nuku Studio

When you look at the 12 portraits taken by photographer Francis Kokoroko of lifers of the Nsawam Prison in Ghana, you see 12 strong, powerful women. What is even more powerful is the story behind those 12 portraits. They are the result of a collaborative and participatory multi-arts project: Remember Me was conceived by artist and stylist Rania Odaymat and photographer Francis Kokoroko, both members of the Accra-based Beyond Collective.

Open Call Catchupa Factory – New Photographers 2019 by Nuku Studio

The Open Call for the 4th Catchupa Factory – New Photographers residency, taking place in Mindelo, Cabo Verde, has been launched. The deadline for application is 27 March 2019. The Catchupa Factory initiative is an educational and artistic creation program in the format of artist residency, dedicated to emerging artists and photographers from the Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP), Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé e Príncipe, Angola and Mozambique.

Eric Gyamfi wins Foam Paul Huf Award 2019 by Nuku Studio

Eric Gyamfi was chosen as the winner of the thirteenth Foam Paul Huf Award. The award is presented annually by Foam to a photography talent under the age of 35. The jury selected Gyamfi out of 100 portfolios sent in from 24 countries. The prize consists of €20,000 and a solo exhibition at Foam. Additionally the work of the winner will be published in the next prestigious annual Talent Issue of Foam Magazine and be included in the internationally traveling group exhibition.

"Northern Ghana Life" photo book available for purchase by Nuku Studio

For the past three years, Nuku Studio and Noorderlicht (House of Photography in The Netherlands) have been collaborating on the project “Northern Ghana Life”. 11 Ghanaian and international photographers have made a visual documentation of the society and landscape of Northern Ghana, as part of a research project with four universities, including University of Ghana in Legon and the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Wa and Tamale.

Programme of first Nuku Photo Festival Ghana to feature 40 photographers by Nuku Studio

Ghana’s first photo festival – Nuku Festival – will run from 12 to 21 September 2018. A variety of events – exhibitions, art talks, conference, portfolio review, artist-in-residency, and more – will take place in Accra, Tamale, Wa and Kumasi. Some 40 Ghanaian and international photographers will invite the audience to discover photography from across Ghana and beyond.
