Nuku Studio is delighted to announce the screening of “Certain Winds from the South” directed by Eric Gyamfi and written with Moshood Hamza Balogun at its Center for Photographic Research and Practice in Tamale.

The film was shot in 2021 as an adaptation of Prof. Ama Ata Aidoo's “The Certain Winds from the South” from her "no sweetness here" collection of short stories of the year 1970.

The story is about M´ma Asana, who receives a visit from his son-in-law one fateful evening. He has come to inform her of his decision to embark on a journey to the South of Ghana, in search of greener pastures. Through conversations and reflections from both characters, and others, we uncover a vicious cycle of inequality, that seeks to threaten their already precarious future.

Directed by Eric Gyamfi and written with Moshood Hamza Balogun the film features Pure Akan, Nasiba Mbabe Bawa, Amadu Ayi, Nenesenor Abloso, Asiakwen Abagdem, Nipah Dennis and DJ Yamz with the set design by Courage Dzidula Kpodo.

Released in 2023 with its initial opening on 19 August at Nuku´s Center for Photographic Research and Practice, Nuku will be screening “Certain Winds from the South” until the end of September 2023. The film will be on display during the opening hours Tuesday to Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm until 30 September 2023.

Nuku Studio is looking forward to welcoming you all!
