“Sɛ nsuo su a - When water cries” opens 20 April at Nuku Studio in Tamale / by JULIANE REISSIG

Nuku Studio presents “Sɛ nsuo su a - When water cries”, a photo exhibition by Fibi Afloe and Amelie Koerbs. The outdoor exhibition in the garden of Nuku Studio’s Center for Photographic Research and Practice in Tamale will explore the life in communities along the Black and White Volta river as well as the Volta lake.

The project displays an interplay between human actions, climate change, other environmental issues, and the resulting effects. It starts to question: Who should be held responsible when humans and nature struggle?

In 2022, the former Nuku Young Talents joined  the “Untold Stories of the Volta” project which was part of the Living Water Swim expedition funded by the OR-Foundation. They embarked on a journey along the Volta river and lake to explore that question. The two photographers are excited to now show the results of their research.

“When water cries” is a story about water being hurt. It is about water not being treated fairly, it is about water not being respected and it is about water not being taken good care off. If we start listening to water, we will know that water can no longer bear all these pains. If we start listening to water, we will hear it cry.

The exhibition runs until 31 May 2024.
