Nuku Studio presents “Bicycles Forever - Tamale”, a photo exhibition about the rich history and cultural significance of bicycles in Ghana with a special focus on Tamale.

The exhibition is part of the project "Cycling Cities: The African Experience" which aims to explore and document the evolution of bicycle commuting in various African cities. It highlights the importance of considering local contexts in developing cycling cultures and emphasises the need for scholarly research to inform policy decisions.

“Bicycles Forever - Tamale” showcases photographs from individual and institutional archives as well as works of James Barnor, Willis Bell and Gideon Asmah. This exhibition contains figurative windows which takes the audience back in time to when the bicycle was first introduced to Ghana as well as highlighting the present we live in today. This dialogue of times will give an understanding of where we come from and allows us to imagine what our future may look like.

In addition to the deep dive into Tamale, we present short format case studies of a further 15 cities - showcasing the great diversity of the African continent, while highlighting the many shared similarities. There will be many interactive elements that the community may explore, as well as a bicycle tour through Tamale.
